Pronounced loss of Amazon rainforest resilience since the early 2000s

چکیده
Abstract The resilience of the Amazon rainforest to climate and land-use change is crucial for biodiversity, regional global carbon cycle. Deforestation change, via increasing dry-season length drought frequency, may already have pushed close a critical threshold dieback. Here, we quantify changes by applying established indicators (for example, measuring lag-1 autocorrelation) remotely sensed vegetation data with focus on optical depth (1991–2016). We find that more than three-quarters has been losing since early 2000s, consistent approach transition. Resilience being lost faster in regions less rainfall parts are closer human activity. provide direct empirical evidence resilience, risking dieback profound implications storage at scale.

Has the employment status of people living with HIV changed since the early 2000s?
OBJECTIVES In a context marked by major changes in the field of HIV and in the general socioeconomic context, this study aimed at investigating changes in the employment situation of people living with HIV (PLWHIV) in France since the early 2000s. DESIGN Repeated cross-sectional survey among two nationally representative samples of PLWHIV followed at hospital in France in 2003 (N = 2932) and ...
متن کاملDrought sensitivity of the Amazon rainforest.
Amazon forests are a key but poorly understood component of the global carbon cycle. If, as anticipated, they dry this century, they might accelerate climate change through carbon losses and changed surface energy balances. We used records from multiple long-term monitoring plots across Amazonia to assess forest responses to the intense 2005 drought, a possible analog of future events. Affected...
متن کاملLinked Brazilian Amazon Rainforest Data
The Linked Brazilian Amazon Rainforest Data contains observations about deforestation of rainforests and related things such as rivers, road networks, population, amount of cattle, and market prices of agricultural products. The Linked Data approach offers thus to combine ecological, economical and social dimensions together. Our aim has been to 1) dramatically shorten the time needed to collec...
متن کاملIsoprene photochemistry over the Amazon rainforest.
Isoprene photooxidation is a major driver of atmospheric chemistry over forested regions. Isoprene reacts with hydroxyl radicals (OH) and molecular oxygen to produce isoprene peroxy radicals (ISOPOO). These radicals can react with hydroperoxyl radicals (HO2) to dominantly produce hydroxyhydroperoxides (ISOPOOH). They can also react with nitric oxide (NO) to largely produce methyl vinyl ketone (...
متن کاملSemantic Linking of Data for the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest Statistics
Different techniques, including remote sensing, are used to collect data about the deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. However, a key problem for integrating all the resulting datasets for statistical analysis is the semantic diversity among these datasets. In this paper we identify key semantic interoperability challenges for the Brazilian Amazon rainforest statistics.
